Crafting hard working advert copy is a lot easier than you think. Here are our top seven tips.
1.) Sell your school 00:17
Number one – sell your school. Your job advert is often a candidate’s first impression of your school. So you need to make sure it’s working as hard as it possibly can; present your USPs, what your staff benefit from, or just what makes you different, to make a great first impression.
2.) It’s an advert, not a job description 00:35
Number two – it’s an advert, not a job description. Most people will know what the role will entail, so make sure you keep all of the job specific information for your job description, not for your advert.
3.) Don’t overuse bullet points 00:48
Number three – don’t overuse bullet points. Remember, your job advert isn’t a shopping list. Make sure you expand on your information and only use bullet points sparingly.
4.) Review your competition 01:01
Number four – review your competition. Don’t be afraid to check out what your competitors are putting out there. Some people will be getting it right and some people will be getting it wrong. Use a good one to benchmark yourself against.
5.) Use your summary 01:15
Number five – utilise your summary. Most job boards will give candidates a brief tease as to what your job listing reads in search results. Make sure your snippet is attention grabbing and engaging to make sure yours is the one that’s read.
6.) Have a clear call to action 01:30
Number six – make sure that your call to action is clear. There’s nothing more infuriating than having a really engaging job advert that you can’t actually apply for. Make sure that your apply process is clear and easy to follow.
7.) One size doesn’t fit all 01:45
And finally, number seven – one size doesn’t fit all. Make sure that you’ve got a variety of intros and outros that you can tailor for each vacancy, to avoid your candidates getting bored.
