We’re just a couple of weeks away from the end of 2019, and the end of this decade – hasn’t it flown by!
With that in mind, we wanted to take a look into the future of marketing and how school marketers can benefit! What do we have to look forward to in 2020? What should we be taking into account? And what should we be doing more of?
Here are 7 top trends that are set to big in 2020…
Trend #1 – Video Marketing
Your audience loves video and so do we, as marketers. Videos are well remembered. They are very engaging. It is predicted that 80% of global internet traffic will be attributed to videos by 2021.
If you’re not already, you need to be incorporating video into your school’s marketing strategy. Video is a great way to showcase your school and everything amazing thing that comes with it. Whether that be a video to showcase what your school offers to potential staff members or a shorter video for social media.
At Ambleglow, we’re really excited to be doing more video marketing in 2020 – keep an eye out for that!
Don’t forget, live videos are also becoming more and more prominent, and it isn’t looking like that’ll slowdown in 2020.

Trend #2 – In-depth insights
There is no shortage of data from social media marketing efforts. As more people unite on social media, pulling data from different platforms, can help you gather great insights into consumer behaviour. Meaning you’ll better understand the customer journey.
This will help you create content that prospects, parents, potential staff members and the wider community actually want to see, engage with and enjoy!
Trend #3 – AR and VR
Experiential marketing has huge opportunity to engage your audience and create striking experiences for them. Virtual Reality (VR) can be used to bring to life a school event or a virtual setting, while Augmented Reality (AR) can add unimaginable depth to real-life experiences.
With social media platforms pushing features like Facebook’s Oculus Rift Glasses, we need to embrace these features to engage our audiences and boost our ROI.
Did you know you can also create your own Snapchat filter for your events? Perfect for school productions, sports days etc. We’ll definitely be creating a fabulous Ambleglow filter soon!
Trend #4 – Personalised content
Personalisation is the future of digital marketing. Your audience expect it too… by 2020, 51% of consumers expect that companies will anticipate their needs.
It may sound ambitious to create personalised content for each individual in your audience, but with the surprising amount of data you now have access to and developing technologies, it’s possible. Plus, if a potential family for your school were to receive a personalised prospectus just for them, how impressed would they be?!
Most social media platforms are already customising a user’s newsfeed based on their likes, clicks and preferences. This trend will continue to grow, and we will be delivering bespoke content to our audiences.
Trend #5 – Chatbots
Chatbots have been around for years. But there have been rare cases of a chatbot actually providing good user experience and conversations. We’re starting to figure out that chatbots provide enormous opportunity to optimise, personalise, convert and even proactively engage in conversations with our audiences.
It’s not only B2C brands that get the benefit of this. B2B companies are expected to utilise chatbots just as much through other outcomes such as lead generating, data capture and customer service.
Trend #6 – Niche platforms
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter cater to vast audiences, whereas platforms like LinkedIn make it easier to connect with a more specific audience. This is particularly helpful when trying to engage with alumni on LinkedIn as well as your future collegues.
Niche social platforms will increase in popularity and make it easier for us to focus on a particular audience.
Trend #7 – AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is on trend now and into 2020. Combined with machine learning (ML), AI can help you automate tedious and monotonous tasks, offer personalised recommendations and engage your audience.
