Video marketing is such a big buzz at the moment, and it’s known to be one of the most successful ways to market a business. And the same goes for your school.
If your school isn’t using video marketing in your overall strategy, it’s definitely time to change that.
That’s why we’re sharing some of our top tips when it comes to making sure your school’s video marketing is effective. Meaning you’ll be able to crack on with producing top quality videos for your school.
#1 Tell a story, don’t try to sell
I’m sure you already know this, but people don’t respond well to being sold to. That’s why instead of selling to your school community, you need to tell them a story.
When you’re writing the content of your script, think about how it sounds. Does it sound conversational? Is it too formal? This is why I always read scripts to someone or at least out loud instead of in my head, this way you can get a sense of the spoken tone. You’ll probably find you’ll also ad-lib a bit and that’s absolutely fine – in fact, it’s the best way to portray your personality over the camera.
#2 Make sure your video grabs your viewer’s attention straight away
20% of viewers will click away from a video within 10 seconds or less. And that’s why you need to get right to the point and manage expectations from the outset.
Spark your audience’s curiosity by asking them questions and using teasers to grab their attention immediately.
Something else to think about is video length. Nine out of ten of the most-watched Facebook videos are under 2 minutes, and they’re the most-watched for a reason. If someone clicks on your video and sees that it’s 13 minutes long, chances are they won’t even click play. I would advise keeping your video between 30 seconds and 3 minutes.
#3 Make it easy to follow
If a video is too formal, serious, wordy or long (as we just mentioned), your viewers probably won’t make their way through the entire video.
The easiest way to keep the attention of your viewers is to add a bit of humour into your videos. And done well, your school can reap the rewards from using humour in your video content. Let’s not forget, you have the best comedians at your disposal… your school’s pupils!
#4 Make sure your video is found
So you’ve put all this hard work into writing your script, recording your video and the post-production… but it’s not being viewed.
Could you imagine how disappointing that would be to everyone involved? That’s why you need to ensure that your video can be seen and is searchable, wherever you publish it. If you’re publishing your video on social media, make sure you curate an effective longtail caption and use relevant and popular hashtags.
What about if you’re publishing to YouTube? In this case, you need to ensure you’re using keywords in the video’s title and description, also make sure you have an eye-catching thumbnail so it’s not lost in amongst the search results. The same goes for Wistia and Vimeo.
There’s no doubt that video content is huge right now, and that’s probably going to be the case for the foreseeable future. So now is certainly the time to get the camera out and start your school’s video content journey.
Before we sign off, we’d just like to mention that your videos don’t have to be Hollywood productions, no one expects this. Plus, the more authentic your videos are, the better!
